Stress lives in your face: scalp and face massage for calm and better sleep
It's 11 pm. The house is quiet, but your head isn't. Your forehead is creased, your jaw is tight, and there's a band of pressure around your skull that won't let go. You fall asleep late, wake up tired, and the face in the mirror shows it. If you've searched "how to relax before sleep" more than once this month, this article is for you.
Why it happens
- Stress settles in the face. Frowning, clenching and holding your breath are automatic. Over a day they add up to real muscle tension.
- The scalp gets tight too. The muscles over your forehead and the back of your head are connected. When they tighten, it can feel like a band around the head.
- Neck and shoulders join in. Hours at a laptop lift the shoulders and load the neck, and the tension climbs up to the head and face.
- A busy mind, a tense body. When your body stays on alert, it's harder to switch off at night.
- And it shows. A tense face looks tired: deeper frown lines, a harder jaw, a dull tone.
Quick self-check
- Is your forehead creased or your brow lowered right now?
- Are your teeth touching?
- Press gently on your scalp with your fingertips. Does it feel tight, or does it barely move?
- Do you often lie awake with your thoughts racing?
Two or more "yes" answers? Your face and head are probably holding more stress than you think.
What you can do today
- Before bed, put your phone away 30 minutes earlier than usual.
- Breathe out slowly, longer than you breathe in, for 5 breaths.
- Massage your scalp with your fingertips for 2 minutes, as if you were washing your hair slowly.
- Smooth your forehead with your palms, from the centre outwards, 10 times.
- Lips together, teeth apart: let your jaw hang loose as you fall asleep.
If poor sleep goes on for weeks, or you feel anxious most of the time, talk to your doctor. Massage is a way to relax, not a treatment for insomnia or anxiety.
What face and scalp massage do
At 360°FACE, three treatments are made for a stressed face and a busy head:
- Kobido (55 min, €60): a Japanese face massage with rhythmic movements, gentle pressure and drainage on the face, neck and décolleté. It's deeply relaxing; many clients drift off on the table.
- Head massage booster (10 min, €10): a short scalp massage you can add to any face massage, to release the tight band around your head.
- Head & Shoulders (30 min, €35): works the upper back, shoulders, neck and scalp, perfect after a long desk day or in a lunch break.
What clients usually tell us afterwards: the face feels softer, the head lighter, and that night's sleep comes easier. Results vary from person to person, but the calm is real.
How to book it
Kobido, the head massage booster and Head & Shoulders are available in Parede (Cascais) and Lisbon. Prefer a combination? Book a face massage and add the 10-minute head massage for €10.

FAQ
Will it help me sleep? Many clients say they sleep better after a session, because the body relaxes. It isn't a treatment for sleep disorders; for those, see your doctor.
What's the best time of day to come? Late afternoon or early evening, if you can, so you go home in that calm state. A lunch break works too.
Will the head massage mess up my hair? A little, yes. Plan a hairbrush, or book it before a hair wash.
Who should wait? After a recent surgical facelift, less than 5 weeks after Botox or fillers, with inflamed skin, a rash or an allergy, or with a fever or a contagious illness.
