Neck lines and a softer jawline: what you can actually change
You catch yourself on a video call, or in a photo taken from slightly below, and there they are: horizontal lines across your neck and a jawline that seems to melt into it. Your face cream ends at the chin, and so, it seems, does your care. If you've ever searched "how to get rid of neck wrinkles" or "tech neck lines", here's what's really going on.
Why it happens
- Tech neck. Looking down at a phone or laptop for hours folds the skin of the neck in the same place again and again.
- Tight neck muscles. A stiff neck and raised shoulders pull on the lower face. The jaw and neck work as one system.
- A clenched jaw. A jaw that's always working can make the lower face look wider and heavier.
- Fluid under the jaw. When drainage is slow, puffiness can collect under the chin and blur the contour.
- Sun and age. Neck skin is thin and often forgotten when it comes to SPF. Over the years it loses firmness, and some lines are simply genetic.
Quick self-check
- How many hours a day do you look down at a screen? More than three counts.
- Put your fingers under your jaw and swallow. Does it feel tight or sore?
- Are your teeth touching right now?
- Does the area under your chin look puffier in the morning?
If you said yes to two or more, tension and posture are playing a part. That's the part you can change.
What you can do today
- Lift your phone to eye level instead of dropping your head to it.
- Chin tucks: gently draw your chin back, hold for 5 seconds, repeat 5 times.
- Lips together, teeth apart, whenever you notice clenching.
- Take your skincare and SPF all the way down to your collarbones.
- At night, sweep your hands from the jaw down the sides of the neck towards the collarbones, 10 times.
What facial lifting massage does
Our facial lifting massage doesn't stop at the chin. Your therapist works the face, neck, shoulders and scalp in one session, because a tight neck pulls the whole face down.
- Releases the neck and shoulders, so the lower face isn't pulled down
- Tones the muscles along the jaw for a more defined contour, without injections
- Depuffs the area under the chin through drainage
When the jaw itself is tight, add a buccal massage booster (20 min, €22). Wearing gloves, your therapist releases the jaw and cheek muscles from inside the mouth as well. Many clients say their face feels lighter and the jawline looks sharper afterwards.
Let's be honest about the limits: massage can soften tension lines and help the jawline look more defined. It won't remove loose skin or deep, set-in neck lines. For those, a dermatologist can tell you about medical options.
How to book it
Facial lifting massage, with the neck included, is available in Parede (Cascais) and Lisbon: 30 min €40, 45 min €50, 60 min €60, 65 min €68. Your first session is €30. Add buccal massage for €22.

FAQ
Can massage get rid of a double chin? It can help reduce puffiness and make the jawline look more defined. A double chin caused by fat or loose skin won't disappear with massage.
How often should I come? For a visible change, start with weekly sessions; your therapist will suggest how many.
Is buccal massage uncomfortable? You'll feel firm pressure on tight spots. Your therapist adjusts it to you.
Who should wait? After a recent surgical facelift, less than 5 weeks after Botox or fillers, with inflamed skin, a rash or an allergy, or with a fever or a contagious illness. Skip buccal massage with mouth sores or after recent dental work.
